Sandeep Unnikrishnan

Sandeep Unnikrishnan son of retired ISRO Officer K. Unnikrishnan and Dhanalakshmi Unnikrishnan was born on 15^th March,1977 in the Malayali family of Kozhikode District, in the state of Kerala. And became martyred on 28 November 2008 in Mumbai Attack. Sandeep was an officer in the Indian army serving in the elite Special action group of the National security guard. . He was honored with the Ashok Chakra for his bravery in Mumbai Attack.

Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan guided the rescue operation on 27^th November, 2008 to flush out terrorists from Hotel Taj Mahal, Mumbai and rescued around 14 captive.
During the operation, his team came under enormous aggression fire, in which one of the soldier from his team got seriously injured. Major Sandeep locked in the terrorists with accurate fire and rescued the injured commando and took them to a safe place. In the mean, he got injured in his right armwith a gun-shot. Even after being injured, he stood strong and fought with bravery with the terrorists till his last breath.
Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan showed the most outstanding bravery apart from good fellowship and superintendence of the highest order and made the remarkable sacrifice for the nation.

During the funeral of Lt. Major Sandeep, condoler chanted “Sandeep Unnikrishnan Amar Rahe” (“May the name o Sandeep Unnikrishnan remain eternal”). Thousands of people lined up outside his residence in Bangalore to show their condolence and their respects for him. The funeral was done with full military honors.

The Mother Dairy Double Road in Bangalore, from Federal Mogul on Doddaballapur Road to MS Palya junction, was introduced with new name in the memories of Lt.  Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan Road. A sculpture of Lt.  Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan is inaugurated on Ramamurthy Nagar Outer Ring Road junction in Bengaluru and the same is named in his honor.
