Capt Jas Ram Singh received Ashoka Chakra Award for his quick decision making ability and battlefield tactics in very tough situations. Let’s know more about his courageous Story :-
Capt Jas Ram Singh was born on 1st March 1935 at Bhabokra village in Bulandshahr District of Uttar Pradesh. His father, Shri Badan Singh was a simple farmer and instilled in his children honesty, integrity and simple living. In the absence of basic facilities and even a primary school in his village, Capt Jas Ram Singh had to struggle in his childhood. He had his primary education in another village after which he joined NREC in Khurja for his higher education. He joined the Army as a Signalman. After serving in a number of Signal Regiments, he was selected as an instructor in the Army Educational Corps where he continued till 1963. In the same year, he was commissioned as an Emergency Commissioned Officer from OTS, Madras into the Rajput Regiment.
In 1968 Captain Jasram Singh was posted with Rajput Regiment in Mizoram. In the same year he was leading 16 Battalion’s platoon of Rajput Regiment in Mizo Hills. He received information that some militants were hidden in Mizo hills. After receiving the information, he tried hard and came to know that near about 50 militants were present in a village in Mizo Hills. Captain Jasram Singh along with two platoons instantly headed towards the village. When they were about to reach the village, the platoons came under heavy militants fire from a dominating feature. Captain Jasram Singh individually led the assault and overran the militants ‘position. After this courageous act militants abandoned position and fled away. They left behind two dead, six injured and a huge quantity of arms and ammunition. In this complete encounter, Captain Jasram Singh displayed most conspicuous bravery and leadership. For his bravery he received Ashoka Chakra Award.
